DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the programme is to train bachelors of tourism with innovative thinking, skills in designing and providing tourist, sightseeing and other travel services, advanced technologies for ensuring the operation of tourist infrastructure facilities and tourist services, capable of developing territories and solving strategic tasks of the industry, flexibly responding to current challenges of the tourism market.

AIMS

organisation and management activity:
•    organising the work of performers and make decisions to organise tourism activities.

design activity:
•    designing tourism facilities;
•    analysing the resources of a specific area and identifying their potential for use in tourism.

technological activity:
•    developing and applying technologies for tourism service using information technology.

service activity:
•    organising the process of customer service based on regulatory acts, taking into account customer needs and using client-oriented technologies;
•    implementing internal and external professional communications, including those in English.

research activity:
•    searching, analysing and processing scientific information in the field of tourism.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
•    collect, store, process, analyse and assess information about the structure of tourism centres, excursion sites, border crossing rules, and specifics of organising tourism in various regions and Russia, as well as information necessary for an organisation to manage tourism activities;
•    draw up documentation in the professional field and check its correctness;
•    comply with current legislation and regulatory documents, as well as requirements set by technical regulations and agreement provisions;
•    work with reference and information materials on country studies, geography, and tourism resource studies;
•    manage internal processes in a tourism organisation, including forming and using logistical and human resources;
•    resolve disputed and conflict situations in labour conflicts, as well as with service consumers;
•    select and implement pricing strategies for a tourism enterprise;
•    manage tourism enterprise activities;
•    comprehend the basics of tourism and recreation design;
•    study and forecast demand, considering consumers in specific market segments; 
•    design tourist routes and programmes, including regional branded programmes;
•    develop and implement projects aimed at tourism enterprise development;
•    design tourism enterprises;
•    form logistic schemes in tourism and assess its efficiency;
•    design a tourist product considering ethnocultural, historic, religious aspects and current legislation requirements using modern technologies in tourism, marketing, commerce and logistics;
•    use technologies of environmental management when designing tourism products;
•    apply modern information technology when implementing tourism products and providing services;
•    ensuring security for tourism activities, including labour protection;
•    comply with the quality and safety standards of comprehensive tourism services;
•    provide pre-sales (information) service and post-sales service (quality assurance);
•    ensure partnerships with consumers and interested parties;
•    develop internal regulatory documents to ensure the quality of standardisation of tourism services;
•    provide services in accordance with ethnocultural, historic, national and religious traditions, based on the identified needs of tourists;
•    conduct research in individual sections (stages, tasks) of topics in accordance with approved methods;
•    analyse the influence of geographic factors on tourism and recreation activities in Russia and the world.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

A graduate of the program is able to work as a tour guide, a specialist in the organisation and provision of tourist services, a tourism manager, a specialist in domestic tourism, a specialist in certain types of tourism (children's, health, business tourism, etc.), a director of individual tours, an income manager in the hospitality and tourism industry. Main places of work: tourist information centres; tour bureaus; tourism development centres; tour operator and travel agency companies; online booking companies for tickets, tourist and/or sightseeing services; hotels and other accommodation facilities; museums and exhibition centres; other organisations in the field of tourism and the hospitality industry.
