Department of Fine Art and Culture Studies

Since its establishment in 1988, the department of Fine Art and Culture Studies has been applying the effective methods for teaching new cultural disciplines, such as drama teaching and role-play gaming. This enhances the psychological and informative impact of the creatively mastered content of the degree programmes. The capabilities of Penza museums, art galleries and other cultural institutions are regularly used in the teaching and learning process.

The department focuses on artistic and creative training of students, as well as on forming a realistic image of the surrounding reality and developing skills of creative self-expression through various techniques. For this purpose, students are engaged in creativity competitions and exhibitions held in the Penza Region and beyond it. A peculiar result of creativity is their graduation projects, decorated interiors, certificates and awards of different levels. The excellent role models for students are teaching staff members, who regularly organise exhibitions, which are in demand in the Russian Federation.

An important place is occupied by research. Its main area is designing teaching and learning aids to ensure the development of artistic creativity among students. Teaching staff of the department also explore the particular areas of interest, such as history of culture, applied cultural studies, museum science, arts and crafts, architecture, gender history, theatrical art and many others.

The department has close ties with various institutions and organisations that enables employing graduates in secondary and higher educational institutions, art schools, art and design studios and computer design centres. Teaching staff of the department are invited to hold awareness raising meetings with schoolchildren and to participate in artistic and creative competitions in the Penza Region as experts and jury members. They regularly give public lectures for preschool teachers and primary school teachers and advise managers and leaders of art studios and creativity teams.
