Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology

To face challenges in medicine and pharmacy and enhance training of healthcare specialists, Penza State University established the Department of Pharmacology in 2001, which was further renamed to the Department of General and Clinical Pharmacology.

The teaching and learning activity of the department spans the Specialist’s degree programmes (namely Pharmacy, General Medicine, Medical Cybernetics, Paediatrics and Dentistry), as well as the clinical residency and post-graduate programmes. In addition to the regular higher education programmes, the department offers lifelong learning in several areas (Management and Economy of Pharmacy, Aspects of a Pharmacist Job, State Regulation in Circulation of Narcotic Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Their Precursors, Storing, Accounting and Dispensing of Drugs in Medical Organisations Licensed for Pharmaceutical Activity).

Since the foundation of the department, 9 dissertations have been defended, more than 30 patents have been received and more than 35 teaching aids have been published. The teaching staff solved the applied tasks in medicine and pharmacy through implementing research projects, completing state tasks and enforcing research contacts in collaboration with public and private institutions and organisations. The innovations of the department are presented at exhibitions of various levels and awarded with diplomas and prizes.

The teaching staff oversees three student research teams functioning at the department. They are “Pharmamicrobiology, Biotechnology, Pharmacognosy”, “Pharmaceutical Chemistry” and “Pharmaceutical Technology”. During the meetings, its members report on the results of their studies and share their experience. The members of the research teams are the regular participants of the grant programmes (e.g. UMNIK), research competitions (e.g. International youth scientific school “Modern Bioengineering and Nuclear Physics Technologies in Medicine”) and olympiads (e.g. Olympiad of the Nizhnevolzhsky Pharmacy Cluster).
