EUSOSEL project: course trainees learn how to fight poverty and social exclusion On 21 October 2022, the trainees completed the professional training course “European Union practices of fighting poverty and social exclusion”. For three days, the representatives of local and regional authorities dealing with social security issues, as well as social workers, practicing lawyers, economists and law teachers considered the legal frameworks for combating poverty and social exclusion. In total, 28 persons completed the course. The course involved taking the interactive assignments and creating a project based on the acquired knowledge and skills “What European practices of fighting poverty are relevant for the Russian Federation?”. |

EUSOSEL project manager shares her expertise in social security law Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines and manager of the project “Social Security Law in the European Union” (EUSOSEL) prepared two research articles for Russian and foreign journals. Factual material was collected and selected in the process of implementing the project and running the project activities. The first article “Russian pension legislation: some problems of theory and practice” was published in the electronic scientific journal “Science. Society. State". In her article, Anna Aleksandrova analyses the pension legislation in the Russian Federation and identifies the existing problems. For the French journal “Revue de droit comparé du travail et de la sécurité sociale” (Review of Comparative Labour and Social Law), Anna Aleksandrova wrote an article in French titled “UNIFICATION DU SYSTÈME DE SÉCURITÉ SOCIALE EN RUSSIE” (unification of the social security system in Russia). |

Professional training course launched at PSU within the EUSOSEL project Within the framework of the project “Social Security Law in the European Union” (EUSOSEL), the professional training course “European Union practices of fighting poverty and social exclusion” was developed. The aim of the course is to familiarize the trainees with the best European practices in combating poverty and social exclusion and to intensify research in the field of European social law. The course is conducted at the Center for Teaching and Learning Erasmus + of PSU and in the Institute of Law of PSU from 19 October 2022 to 21 October 2022. The course trainees are the representatives of local and regional authorities dealing with social security issues, as well as social workers, practicing lawyers, economists and law teachers. |

First certificates within ProEU and EUSOSEL projects awarded to PSU students Penza State University completed the first stage of the international project Social Security Law in the European Union (EUSOSEL) supported under the Erasmus+ Programme (Jean Monnet Module). At the Centre for Teaching and Learning Erasmus+, the project team represented by Anna Aleksandrova and Anastasiia Ryzhova (EUSOSEL project) designed the teaching and learning materials and developed the module for the students of the Institute of Law (PSU). On successful completion of the academic module “Social Security Law in the European Union”, the students received the two-language certificates. |

EUSOSEL research group demonstrates publication activity The research group on EU social law has been functioning since the launch of the project “Social Security Law in the European Union” (EUSOSEL). As a goal, the members of the research group identified discussion of topical issues in social law. Currently, they are actively involved in developing research projects, preparing speeches for participation in various forums and conferences, as well as writing research articles on the topics of interest. Based on the results of monthly meetings with the research group members and exchange of ideas and opinions on the relevant issues, Maria Chuvatova, Master student in the Institute of Law at PSU, prepared the research article “Measures of social support of the population in the context of a pandemic: legislative experience of Germany”. |

The last series of lectures and seminars was held for PSU students (Institute of Law) under the module “Social Security Law in the European Union” within the EUSOSEL project. Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, showed the role of the EU institutions and bodies in coordinating social security systems. Anastasiia Ryzhova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, engaged the students in analysing the documents, which regulate the issues of coordinating social security systems. |

The All-Russian science-to-practice conference "New Image of Social Law: Practices in the Russian Federation and the European Union" was organised at the Department of State and Legal Disciplines at the Institute of Law (Penza State University). The conference was held in the blended format and attended by the teaching staff, undergraduate and graduate students from Penza, Moscow, Tambov and Rostov-on-Don. The participants examined the theoretical aspects and the main trends in the development of social law and the welfare state, studied the practices in the Russian Federation and the European Union member states. The participants of the Research Group on EU Social Law created within the EUSOSEL project presented their findings. |

Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, improved the students’ understanding of the sources of social security law and explained the role of the international legal documents and, in particular, EU legal documents in the system of social security law. Together with Anastasiia Ryzhova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, the students practised the skills of comparative legal analysis of the EU legal documents on social security. In addition, the students under the supervision of their teachers systematises the models of social security in the EU member states and identified the specific features of social security law in the EU. That activity enabled them to measure social security law in the EU member states and the Russian Federation. |

The module “Social Security Law in the European Union” also included familiarising students with the initiative of the European Commission to create the European Pillar of Social Rights (European Social Pillar). While conducting the lectures and seminars, Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, and Anastasiia Ryzhova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, introduced the students to the concept and content of the Social Constitution of the EU and the European Pillar of Social Rights, as well as engaged the students in summarising the EU documents, which contain the foundations of the Social Constitution of the EU. |

ProEU and EUSOSEL projects gain momentum The EUSOSEL project team represented by Anna Aleksandrova and Anastasiia Ryzhova delivered a series of lectures and seminars within the module “Social Security Law in the European Union”. The students broadened understanding about the level of social development in the EU member states and the relations between the economic and social components in the activity of the EU institutions, bodies and organisations. Together with Anna Aleksandrova they identified the features in the activity of the European Commission and the European Social Fund, as well as the mechanisms of implementing the social competence in the EU. |

First lecture on social security law held within EUSOSEL project The first lecture was delivered within the academic module “Social Security Law in the European Union” designed and provided under the EU-funded Erasmus+ project. The students attended the lecture online on the Zoom platform. Together with Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, the students explored the following topics: istory of the European integration and major institutions in the European Union. |

Two Jean Monnet Modules launched at PSU On 1 February 2022 Penza State University launches the project “Social Security Law in the European Union” (EUSOSEL) supported within the Erasmus+ Programme under the call Jean Monnet Actions in the field of Higher Education (Jean Monnet Module). At the Centre for Teaching and Learning Erasmus+, the project team represented by Anna Aleksandrova and Anastasiia Ryzhova (EUSOSEL project) will deliver the new module and familiarize students of the Institute of Law (PSU) with social security law in the European Union. |

PSU projects for the first time granted within the Erasmus+ Programme in Jean Monnet Actions For the first time in the history of Penza State University entry in the Erasmus+ Programme under the call Jean Monnet Actions in the field of Higher Education Teaching and Research (since 2015), the projects for Jean Monnet Module were supported.
