International Webinar "EU Languages, Translation and Terminology"

On December 16, the International Webinar "EU Languages, Translation and Terminology" was held with the participation of Colin Robertson, a former lawyer and translator of the Council of Europe.

The event was organized by Tatiana Dubrovskaya, Head of English Language Department and was attended by post-graduate students of the department, who are completing the course "Theory of the language", and by students studying International relations.

C. Robertson spoke about the language situation in the European Union, the peculiarities of language legislation and the specific features of translating documents into 24 official languages within the framework of this union of states. The participants of the event asked questions regarding the lexical and syntactic characteristics of legal texts and their translations, the fate of the English language in the European Union, and difficulties in the work of a legal translator.

New meetings are planned that will contribute to developing legal linguistics and strengthening of international contacts at the English Language Department.
