For three days - from November 19 to November 21 - the events of the International Scientific and Educational Online School "Journalism and Media Communications: Theory and Practice" were held at the Department of Journalism of PSU. The organizer and moderator of the media school was Ekaterina Reva, Head of the Department of Journalism at PSU. The co-organizer was a senior lecturer, PhD at the Faculty of Journalism at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University.

All the activities planned in the programme of the media school took place - lectures, seminars, workshops. The students met with media researchers from seven countries of the world: Lebanon, Mexico, Poland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan.

In their speeches, the speakers reflected their views on topics relevant to modern journalism: they talked about genres, formats, working methods of a journalist, digitalization, the release of periodicals in 2021, television and radio, as well as about interethnic interaction in the professional environment and new approaches to education.

The students shared their impressions of the sections of the media school which they visited:

Yana Grechishkina (20ИЖ1): “I liked the events which I attended. Grace Rayess set a positive mood for all days of the media school with her report! In general, it was very interesting to look at the profession from the side of foreign journalists and media researchers. I would like, of course, to have even more practice, but it is clear that this is difficult to do online”.

Alina Olyakova (20ИЖ2): “I learned a lot at each of the visited sections. I especially liked the workshop of the editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Young Leninist" Yulia Izmailova, where we learned to ask questions during an interview. First, we learned about various unusual techniques, and then we tried to ask their questions to representatives of ministries and departments, whose roles were played by the participants of the workshop".

Ekaterina Khruleva (21ИЖ1): “I listened with great interest to a media researcher from Mexico, because I like the Spanish language and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries. I also really liked the lecture of Ekaterina Reva on ethnic journalism and the workshop of Viktoria Smeyukha about public speaking, which contained a lot of useful advice".

The Department of Journalism thanks all the speakers and participants of the media school, as well as the students who helped in holding these events.

Students Elizaveta Borisova and Olga Ukhvatova were assistants to the moderators of the track “Practice”. On November 19, during the workshop “Multimedia Formats in 2021”, young media researchers presented their reports: “The use of audiovisual submodalities for representing subtext on the YouTube channel “Redaction” (Elizaveta Borisova) and “The phenomenon of virtual influencers in the Russian blogosphere” (Olga Uhvatova). The research of the students aroused a sincere interest among the audience: they were asked questions and thanked for the new useful information.

During the second and third days of the media school, second-year students Yana Krysenkova, Margarita Nagornova, Maria Golubeva, Elena Rygovan and Alina Olyakova worked as story-makers on the Department's Instagram. Under the guidance of Galina Zueva, senior lecturer of the Department, they creatively approached the task and coped with it, although for each of them this experience of social networks was the first.

First and second year students actively shared their feedback on the events attended. Ekaterina Khruleva, Tatyana Kozina and Elena Rygovan prepared materials for the Department's VKontakte page.
