Indian Students Celebrate Holi

On March 19, Penza State University hosted the Indian Festival of Colours Holi, which is celebrated annually in India as one of the oldest festivals. Bright, colorful and noisy, the festival marks the arrival of spring, filled with sunlight and a riot of blossoming nature. The inner courtyard of the residence hall 6/2 has turned into a sea of colours, dances and positivity accompanied by the energetic and beautiful Indian music.

“The Holi festival is not only a celebration of spring, but also the victory of good over evil,” said Chevalier Group Director Dr. Yuvraajsinh Solanki. «It has ancient roots and is shrouded in many legends. An integral part of the holiday is paints in the form of a powder of different colours and shades, which are thrown into the air, applied to the face, body and clothes. The use of paint is also a very ancient Indian tradition.”

“Penza State University has 560 students from India,” said Gleb Sintsov, PSU Vice-Rector for International Affairs. «Thanks to the close interaction of the  Student Affairs Department with the Association of Indian Students of the Penza Region, a lot of events are held for the students, including national ones. And Holi is no exception, because it is a festival of love and friendship.”

At the end of the festival, the students flew the symbols of Peace - paper doves - from the balconies of the halls of residence.
