PSU holds VIII Winter Futsal Tournament among international students
Penza State University hosted the traditional Winter Futsal Tournament among international students. In 2023, 20 teams representing more than 10 countries took part in it - about 200 international students in total. The matches were held in two stages: on February 19, qualifying matches took place, on February 26, three teams met in the final matches. The tournament was organized by the Department of Student Affairs (International Education Office, the Institute of International Cooperation), the Institute of Sport and Physical Training (PSU) and the International Students Association (the Penza Region).
“Traditionally, about 25 teams enter the tournament, which is an indicator of the increased interest of international students in sports. Promoting a healthy lifestyle is an important factor in socializing international students, which directly affects educational success!” said Gleb Sintsov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs.
The guests of honor at the tournament were Sergey Ivanchin, Head of the International Education Office, and Adel Maqbol, Chairman of the International Students Association of the Penza Region.
Addressing the teams, Adel Maqbol emphasized: “2023 is the anniversary year for the International Students Association of the Penza Region! One of the functions of the Association is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between students representing different countries and nationalities, including by means of sports events! Remember that each of you is already a winner. The main thing is the participation and rallying of international students! We thank all the teams for a fair play!”
For the first time in the Winter Futsal Tournament, three teams from Egypt became finalists at once. The "Madridista" team won bronze medals. The second place was taken by the "Barca" team, and the "Saitara" team became the winner of the Tournament. All prize-holders and winners were awarded diplomas and medals.
