PSU takes part in the XV Congress of the Eurasian Association of Universities

On March 2-3, the anniversary XV Congress of the Eurasian Association of Universities is being held at Moscow State University. At the Congress of the Association, which unites 125 universities from 18 countries, Penza State University was represented by Gleb Sintsov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs.

Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, President of the Association, Rector of Moscow State University, addressed the audience with a welcoming speech. At his suggestion, the motto of the Congress of the Association was the formula “Development in the face of new challenges”, which defines the main tasks of the work of the participants of the event: finding ways to bring together scientific and educational spaces in Greater Eurasia, diversifying and strengthening supranational academic and scientific ties.

President of the Association V. Sadovnichiy presented a report “On the activities of the Eurasian Association of Universities in the period after the 14th Congress and directions for further development of the Eurasian Association of Universities”. In his report, the Rector of Moscow State University emphasized that "universities throughout the world have been and remain the most important part of society, the engines of science and culture."

The participants of the Congress also spoke about how important it is to develop various forms of interuniversity cooperation (university consortiums, associations), to support the interests of the academic community also by combining the efforts of trade union organizations of universities, to expand the network of branches of Russian universities abroad. The results of the work of universities during the pandemic were discussed.

By fulfilling their initial duties - teaching and developing the scientific potential of young people, universities can create prerequisites for the convergence of educational standards in the Eurasian space, acquaintance with national educational traditions. “I am sure that this activity should be based on the existing experience, actively comprehend it, taking into account current global and regional trends,” said V. Sadovnichy.

Joint educational programmes are highlighted by Viktor Sadovnichy as the tools of this interaction. At the congress, agreements were signed to launch dozens of such programmes.

During the second day of the event, the development of the Eurasian Network University, established in May 2022, was discussed.

“The role of such interaction platforms as the Eurasian Association of Universities is undeniable. They provide an opportunity to evaluate the existing experience, build intersecting paths for the development of universities and lay a solid foundation for the future of the region and country as a whole - not isolated, but open to the whole world, aimed at mutual exchange and building prospects in the interests of the parties involved," Gleb Sintsov summarized the results of participation in the Congress.

The participants of the Congress adopted the Resolution of the XV Congress of the Eurasian Association of Universities. In accordance with the Charter of the Eurasian Association of Universities, Academician Viktor Sadovnichy, Rector of Moscow State University, President of the Russian Union of Rectors, was re-elected President of the Association for a new term. New compositions of the Council of the Association and other governing bodies were also formed.

For reference. The Association of Eurasian Universities was founded in 1989 as an association of universities in the USSR, and has had its current name since 1992. At various times, the work of the Association was devoted to issues of cooperation, the Bologna process, relations based on the principles of a single educational and scientific space.
