On Saturday, April 8, Penza State University traditionally joined the Total Dictation. At one of the sites - at PSU - it was written by international students from India, Indonesia, China, Tajikistan, Lebanon, Algeria and Egypt.

The Trud test is a special version of the Total Dictation adapted for representatives of other states. This is a project for those who study Russian as a foreign or non-native language and want to participate in the campaign, but are not sure that they will be able to write the original text of the dictation.

“Trud” is an integral part of the "Total Dictation" project, so the procedure for conducting the test is as close as possible to the algorithm for conducting the dictation.

“The Russian language means a lot to me. I adore it, so I came to take the Trud test. Firstly, this is not the first time I have participated, I also participated last year. Secondly, I think that this is an extraordinary chance for everyone who studies Russian as a foreign language, especially for us linguists,” shared a third-year student at PSU, Hamza Tuitu.

The test consisted of nine interesting and informative tasks developed by experts of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language based on the original text of the dictation. The final task was a small excerpt from the same text that the test participants wrote from dictation. It was an optional task and was evaluated separately from the rest of the test tasks.

“The Trud test for international students is not only an opportunity to once again demonstrate command of the Russian language, but also an opportunity to learn something new about people and events that are significant for Russia. It is important to support the interest of foreign youth in learning the Russian language. And it is significant that not only linguist students come to write the Trud test, but also future doctors, pharmacists, and engineers,” said Olga Barabash, Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language at PSU.

Total dictation is traditionally written throughout the country and abroad. This year, the international educational campaign became the 20th anniversary.
