PSU Rector Aleksandr Guliakov: “International solidarity of students is the basis for strengthening friendly relations”
On International Students’ Day, Professor Aleksandr Guliakov, Rector of Penza State University, Doctor of Law, noted the importance of strengthening the dialogue of cultures at the present time. This date was established at the International Meeting of Students who fought against nazism in 1941, in memory of the tragic events that occurred in Czechoslovakia in 1939.
November 17 is considered to be International Students’ Day. It is also called International Student Solidarity Day. This date is celebrated in honor of the students who in 1939 in Prague were not afraid of the occupiers and went out to an anti-Nazi demonstration. The Nazis arrested many of them, and nine students were executed.
Much time has passed since then, but the world has not got rid of many anti-human manifestations that hinder the development of people and countries. Particular attention has always been paid to student youth. It is the new generation that carries the ideas of progress and justice. It is the international solidarity of students that is the basis for strengthening friendly relations.
Russian higher education is one of the most attractive in the world for international students. Our country continues to develop relations with those participants in the global research and educational space who share Russia’s ideas about a multipolar world and respect each other’s rights and traditions.
Today, more than 2,800 international students from 47 countries are studying at Penza State University. This is an example of friendly and mutually enriching coexistence of peoples. It is safe to say that PSU international students are taking a step towards strengthening friendship, dialogue between cultures, and overall development.
On this day, I wish that contradictions between states give way to humanitarian, scientific and cultural ties between young people from all over the world!
