PSU held 9th Winter Mini-Football Tournament among international students
The traditional Winter mini-football tournament among international students was held at Penza State University, timed to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the international activities of Penza State University. The tournament was organized by the Department of Student Affairs of the International Education Office, Institute of International Cooperation; the Institute of Sport and Physical Training of Penza State University; and the International Students Association of the Penza Region.
In 2024, it was held for the 9th time, and 16 teams representing more than 15 countries took part in it - that's about 160 international students. The games were held in 2 stages: qualifying rounds took place on February 11, 12 and 13, and on February 18 the teams of Tajikistan, Egypt and Sudan met in the final matches.
“Physical education as a way of adaptation of international students plays a big role not only in the formation of the student’s physical activity, but also in their psychological stability and adaptation to the new society surrounding them. Physical education helps students quickly adapt to new conditions and gain some authority among their peers, which definitely has a positive effect overall!” said Adel Maqbol, Chairman of the International Students Association of the Penza Region.
The honorary guests of the tournament were Gleb Sintsov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs of PSU, and Sergei Ivanchin, Head of the International Education Office.
“2024 is the anniversary year of international activity at Penza State University. One of the functions of the university is to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between students representing different states and nationalities, including through sporting events! Remember that each of you is already a winner. The main thing is the participation and unity of international students! Thanks to all the teams for a fair game!” Gleb Sintsov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs, emphasized addressing the teams.
The Egyptian team won bronze medals. The second place was taken by the Sudanese team, and the winner of the Tournament for the first time was a team from Tajikistan. All prize-winners were awarded diplomas, medals and cups from the International Students Association of the Penza Region.
