On May 15, the grand opening of the International Scientific Forum “Russian language in the modern world: problems of functioning and teaching” took place, which is held as part of the 35th anniversary of the international activities of PSU.

The purpose of the forum is to consolidate domestic and foreign Russian scholars, methodologists, translators, experts, both experienced and young researchers - everyone who is interested in the Russian language, the problems of its functioning and teaching, and the issues of its positioning in the modern world. The organizer of the forum is the department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Institute of International Cooperation, PSU, Scientific Research Institute of Fundamental and Applied Research, PSU.

At the grand opening of the forum, the participants were addressed with welcoming words by Gleb Sintsov, Vice-Rector for International Affairs; Sergei Vasin, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation; Olga Barabash, Acting Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language; Antonia Pencheva, Chairman of the Society of Russian Studies of Bulgaria, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Applied Linguistics of the University of National and World Economy, member of the Presidium of International Association of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (Sofia, Bulgaria); Irena Mikulaco, Head of the Center for Russian Language and Culture “Pushkin Institute”, Chairman of the Croatian Association of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (Pula, Croatia); Lilit Mesropyan, expert-methodologist of the Expert Center of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia (Yerevan, Republic of Armenia); Maqbol Adel Ali Omar, Chairman of the International Students Association of the Penza Region.

The opening ceremony of the forum ended with a video greeting “Our compass is the Russian language!”, prepared by international linguistic students of the Institute of International Cooperation in honor of the 35th anniversary of PSU international activities.

About 300 people registered to participate in the forum: scientists, students, graduate students from Moscow, Volgograd, St. Petersburg, Perm, Vologda, Kemerovo, Yekaterinburg, Miass, Tyumen, Sochi, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Lugansk and other Russian cities, as well as participants from various educational organizations of near and far abroad countries such as Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, China, Italy, Bulgaria, Croatia, Morocco, Mongolia, Indonesia, etc.

The forum will run for 3 days and include a number of events. On May 15, the International Scientific Conference “Russian language in the modern world: problems of functioning and teaching” took place. At the plenary session and five sections, reports were made by leading domestic and foreign scientists. On May 16, a platform for young researchers “Current issues of translation, intercultural communication and linguistic cultural studies” took place and a methodological seminar “ICT in the methodology of teaching Russian as a foreign language” was held. On May 17, the results of the II International Competition of Scientific and Creative Works in Russian for Foreign Students “Creativity Unites the World!” will be summed up, as well as the workshop “Methodology for teaching reading complex texts in practical language classes: reading lessons for everyone!”, which will be held by Natalia Kulibina, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute (Moscow).
