DESCRIPTION

The programme provides Bachelor’s degree students with academic knowledge and practical skills required in biological sciences. The graduates study the fundamentals of social and economic sciences and the Humanities that facilitate their inclusion in modern society.

Bachelor’s degree students obtain higher professional education in the sphere of professional disciplines taking into account the regional requirements for studying wildlife and its patterns, using biological systems for economic and medical purposes, protecting the environment and developing competences in the course of Master’s degree programmes in biology.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:

•    apply economic and legal knowledge to different spheres of life;
•    solve standard professional tasks based on information and reference culture using information and communication technologies and taking into account major requirements for information safety;
•    use ecological literacy and fundamental knowledge of physics, chemistry, Earth sciences and biology in life situations; forecast the consequences of their professional activity, take responsibility for their decisions;
•    demonstrate understanding of fundamentals about the diversity of biological objects, significance of biodiversity for biosphere sustainability, use methods of observation, descriptions, identification, classification, cultivation of biological objects;
•    apply modern experimental methods of work with biological objects in field and laboratory conditions, work with modern equipment;
•    apply fundamentals in general, systems and applied ecology, principles of efficient nature management and protection, monitoring, evaluation of the environment condition and protection;
•    exploit modern equipment to do research field and laboratory biological work;
•    apply knowledge of psychological and pedagogical fundamentals while teaching biological disciplines, conducting educational activity in order to raise biological and environmental awareness of people;
•    use key technical means for retrieving scientific and biological information, multi-purpose packages of applied computer programmes; create bases of experimental biological data, work with biological information in global computer networks;
•    demonstrate knowledge of ecology and geographic distribution of plants, animals and microorganisms in different habitats, their roles in ecosystems and biosphere as a whole;
•    use methods and approaches of microbial indication, phytoindication, zooindication, physiological tests to evaluate ecological quality of the environment;
•    demonstrate knowledge of reserve management and studies and plan events to evaluate the state and protect flora and fauna.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The graduates are employed in research institutions, manufacturing enterprises and supervisory bodies of the corresponding field. They may serve as specialists in biological diagnosis laboratories, nature protection (Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage, state nature reserves), hygienic epidemiological, biochemical and medical organisations and institutions of nature management (forestry, fishery, game husbandry, etc.) as well as teachers in the establishments of general, vocational and higher education.
