DESCRIPTION
The mission of the programme consists in training highly qualified specialists with creative thinking in the field of molecular biology and genetics, focused on successful professional activity, who are competitive specialists in the labour market, taking into account regional needs in the field of research into the living nature and laws of its existence, utilisation of biological systems for economic and medical purposes, and nature protection.
AIMS
research activity:
• applying knowledge of fundamental patterns and methodological characteristics for conducting research in the subject area;
• solving research objectives taking into account the content, methodological and technological aspects of the research;
• defining scientific criteria for the analysis of the compliance of tools, methods and technologies for obtaining new scientific knowledge with the aims and objectives of research;
• ensuring information support for research by creating and maintaining electronic resources of the digital scientific environment.
training activity:
• forming the content and designing educational programmes (basic and advanced levels) at the level of secondary general education and supplementary biological education;
• building the developing educational environment to achieve personal, subject and meta-subject learning outcomes;
• applying innovative resources to the design of innovative content for basic and general educational programmes.
project activity:
• conducting standard operations on high-tech equipment to obtain biological information;
• developing an algorithm and methods to achieve projected levels of qualifications.
organisational and management activity:
• ensuring technological and organisational management when implementing monitoring technologies with the use of modern genetic methods;
• planning activities related to the utilisation of monitoring technologies for biota and habitats, taking into account the environmental and phylogenetic characteristics of the object base;
• analysing and forecasting risks in the professional field and planning complex measures to prevent and overcome them;
• applying innovative management technologies and forms to improve the efficiency of professional activities.
expert and analytical activity:
• assessing the environmental condition, biological productivity and sustainability of ecosystems and biological objects using modern genetic methods;
• examining biological objects based on research data obtained using modern genetic methods;
• analysing and forecasting risks in the educational environment and planning complex measures to prevent and overcome them;
• developing a forecast for the application of nature protection technologies and further development of the environmental situation in ecosystems and biological objects based on empirical information.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• conduct research in the field of molecular biology and genetics, develop innovative tools and algorithms for solving scientific objectives;
• analyse and develop science-based methods and technologies for obtaining new scientific knowledge and electronic resources of the digital scientific environment;
• design educational programmes of various levels in accordance with modern methods and technologies, including information technology, to ensure a modern level of quality in the educational process;
• design a developing educational environment and innovative components of educational programmes to achieve personal, subject, and meta-subject learning outcomes;
• implement project research in the subject field, including projects supported by departmental and extra-budgetary funding;
• assess the potential and improve professional activities using innovative forms of technological and organisational management;
• plan activities related to the utilisation of monitoring technologies for biota and habitats, taking into account the environmental and phylogenetic characteristics of the object base;
• conduct examination and environmental monitoring of biological objects and ecosystems based on the data obtained using modern genetic methods;
• assess the environmental condition, biological productivity and sustainability of ecosystems and biological objects, as well as give a forecast on the application of nature protection technologies and further development of the environmental situation.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The knowledge, skills and abilities acquired during the training will allow the graduate to work effectively as a molecular biologist and/or geneticist in specialised research institutions and organisations that monitor public health and the environment and implement programmes for effective environmental management and restoration of biological resources, as well as a teacher in general education institutions, institutions of secondary education, vocational education and higher education.
