Fields of study: Biology, Biological Systems, Botany, Plant Organisms
Languages of instruction: Russian, English (on request)

DESCRIPTION

The mission of the programme is to train masters with universal, general professional, as well as professional competencies based on the requirements of professional standards and analysis of requirements for professional competencies made to graduates in the labour market, generalising Russian and foreign experience, focused on successful professional activity in the field of studying living nature, preserving the natural environment and human health, ensuring environmental security for agricultural production. The programme forms and develops students' initiatives and creative abilities, helps to increase the effectiveness of graduates' professional activities and maximise the realisation of their creative potential.

AIMS

research activity:
•    studying the condition of plant resources and their rational utilisation, maintaining biodiversity, and protecting the natural environment;
•    defining areas for improving the efficiency of technologies for growing horticultural products based on scientific achievements and the advanced experience of Russian and foreign producers;
•    presenting research results using modern information technology and electronic resources of the digital scientific environment.

project activity:
•    planning and selecting methods for research and experiment implementation according to the level of project research in the field of botany and plant physiology;
•    controlling and complying with algorithms for solving project objectives when conducting research and production activities in the field of botany and plant physiology.

expert and analytical activity:
•    analysing the condition of plant resources and forecasting their sustainability when rationally utilising them as part of the concept of biodiversity protection;
•    identifying causes of deviations in the indicators of quality and safety of horticultural products in order to improve production technology.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
•    conduct research using plant objects for economic and nature protection purposes;
•    implement a systematic approach when solving research objectives, including through the use of modern agricultural and nature protection technologies;
•    conduct project research in the field of botany and plant physiology;
•    assess the condition of botanical objects and plant resources, and forecast the sustainability of ecosystems based on biocenotic data obtained;
•    assess the condition of an agrocenosis and develop a system of measures for controlling the quality and safety of horticultural products.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The programme will allow the graduate to effectively implement their knowledge and skills in the positions of a biologist, research engineer, researcher, head of the department in forestry and agriculture.
