AIMS

• develop confidence in receptive and productive skills necessary for effective communication;
• assist the students in achieving grammatical accuracy, awareness of complex structures – idioms, collocations, fixed phrases, phrasal verbs;
• improve reading strategies, writing precision and stylistic variety, ability to use general, social and subject-specific language, eschange ideas, justify opinions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES 

On successful completion of this course of study students should be able to:
• express themselves fluently and accuately on complex topics;
• use language flexibly for social, academic and professional purposes;
• identify and differentiate between varieties of style, genre, social register in a foreign language, use complex lexico-grammatical structures;
• employ various forms of writing techniques and reading strategies, means of text organization and cohesion.

Environment protection. Global problems. Air, water, soil pollution. Global warming. Environmental disaster of the 20th-21st centuries. Environmental movements. Green parties, organizations. Public awareness.

Transnational organizations. European Union. Economy, politics, education, humanitarian activities. Global issues. World international organizations - history, functions and activities of the United Nations, UNESCO.
