DESCRIPTION

 

The programme provides Master’s degree students with academic knowledge and practical skills required in information technology and computer engineering. In the course of the programme the students should acquire extensive knowledge in the sphere of information science and related sciences.

The programme is aimed at developing students’ ability and willingness to retrieve and obtain raw data required for addressing engineering and scientific challenges in information technology, at integrating students’ knowledge with their professional activity, self-training and constant professional improvement of their skills while working with computer devices and equipment.

Forms of in-class activity: lectures, laboratory work, review sessions, and students’ individual work.

 

AIMS

 

research activity:
•    formulating action plans and programmes for research and technological development, preparing specified tasks for executing;
•    retrieving, processing and analysing scientific and technical information according to the topic of the research, selecting methods and means for performing the tasks obtained;
•    developing mathematical models of processes and products studied;
•    working out methods for designing new processes and products;
•    devising methods for automation of decision-making;
•    conducting experiments and tests, analysing the results obtained;
•    preparing scientific and technical reports, reviews, publications based on the results of the research conducted;

project activity:
•    preparing tasks for making project decisions;
•    developing projects of automated multi-purpose systems, justifying the choice of hardware and software for automating and computerising enterprises and organisations;
•    conceptual engineering of sophisticated items, including software packages, using computer-aided design facilities, best practices of developing competitive items;
•    implementing projects on designing programmes, data bases and programme packages of automated information systems;
•    launching and running projects aimed at integrating information systems in accordance with methods and standards of information support for items, including methods and standards of document management, logistics support, quality assessment of programmes and data bases, e-business;
•    performing technical and economic, functional and cost analysis of the effectiveness of systems designed;
•    preparing guidelines and regulatory documents, technical documents, outlining proposals and activities to implement the developed projects and programmes;

production and technological activity:
•    developing and applying tools for implementing software and hardware projects;
•    working out methods for implementing and maintaining software projects;
•    developing technical tasks on designing software for control facilities and technical equipping industrial production and fulfilling these tasks using means of computer-aided design;
•    testing software products and data bases;
•    selecting systems for ensuring environmental safety of enterprises.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:
•    conduct research in compliance with the methods studied;
•    know and apply optimisation techniques while addressing professional challenges;
•    use the existing methods and algorithms for fulfilling the tasks of data discovering and processing;
•    know and adapt the existing methods and algorithms for fulfilling the tasks of digital signal processing;
•    understand the existing approaches to verification of software models;
•    apply advanced methods of research and address professional challenges based on global trends in the development of computers and information technology;
•    analyse and assess levels of competence, as well as manage further education and career mobility;
•    have a good command of at least one foreign language, establish social and professional communication, use special vocabulary and professional terminology;
•    know and apply methods and means of retrieving, storing, processing and transferring data using modern computer technology, including global computer networks;
•    analyse professional information, identify the essentials in it, organise and present information in the form of analytical reviews containing reasonable conclusions and recommendations.

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

 

The graduates are employed as software engineers, system engineers and system architects at industrial, scientific and educational enterprises of all levels and types.

Some graduates may opt to continue studies and to complete a postgraduate programme.
