Aims:
• to develop core pronunciation and grammar skills;
• to build foundations of vocabulary and the stock of natural collocations;
• to develop learner skills, including setting goals and self-assessment;
• to lay foundations of receptive and productive language skills;
• to teach cross-cultural awareness.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this course of study, students should be able to:

• demonstrate adequate knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and natural collocations;
• to use accurate pronunciation in reading and speaking;
• communicate within the defined topics, participate in team work on projects;
• understand the information from different types of texts: advertisements, short news, magazine articles, blogs, essays;
• apply speech etiquette rules;
• relate facts and phenomena to inter-cultural dimensions

CONTENT

Me and My Family

Personal information and simple speech etiquette. Greetings. Introducing oneself, saying the name, age, date and place of birth, address, phone number. Asking, finding out information about another person, small talk.

Describing a family: relatives, their age, profession, where they live, what languages they speak.

Describing a person: Adjectives to describe personality traits. Appearance. Describing a photo. Characterizing a person.

Daily life: Everyday life of a family, profit, housework. Family relations. Problems of fathers and sons. A happy family. Family traditions.

Marriage: The role of marriage and family in the society. Types of families. An early marriage. An ideal partner. Family holidays. Changing family roles in the 21st century.
