Aims:
• to develop core pronunciation and grammar skills;
• to build foundations of vocabulary and the stock of natural collocations;
• to develop learner skills, including setting goals and self-assessment;
• to lay foundations of receptive and productive language skills;
• to teach cross-cultural awareness.
Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this course of study, students should be able to:
• demonstrate adequate knowledge of grammar, vocabulary and natural collocations;
• to use accurate pronunciation in reading and speaking;
• communicate within the defined topics, participate in team work on projects;
• understand the information from different types of texts: advertisements, short news, magazine articles, blogs, essays;
• apply speech etiquette rules;
• relate facts and phenomena to inter-cultural dimensions

Types of housing around the world. Housing for young people and students.
Living in a city apartment or in a house in the countryside.
Inside a house / an apartment. Furniture. Looking for a house / apartment. Rental. Making up an ad about renting a house or an apartment.
Typical day
Daily routine. Household chores.
Day at university. Biological rhythm: late and early risers. Time, days of the week, months, dates.
Studies: classes, timetable, revising for exams. Learner types.
