DESCRIPTION

The programme offers the student a solid command of the Russian language and understanding the Russian culture. It deals with theoretical and practical issues connected with the language, literature, and communication.

The course is focused on developing intellectual, communicative and creative characteristics of the graduates.
The teachers organize various types of classroom and extracurricular activities for the students.

AIMS

• To train professional philologists capable of teaching Russian as a native and as a foreign language;
• To build up professional competence in various types of philological activities: research, pedagogical, translation, editing, expert, project and management work;
• To provide knowledge of Russian culture and methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language;
• To develop the students’ intellectual, communicative and creative skills.

LEARNER OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course, the student should be able to:

• Develop and advance their intellectual and cultural level; ready for individual study and acquisition of knowledge and skills with the help of new information technologies;
• Use Russian and foreign languages as a means of business communication;
• Generate ideas, adapt to new situations, and analyze new experience;
• Show a comprehensive grasp of modern philological paradigm and its development, the system of methodological principles and methods of philological research;
• Apply communicative strategies and tactics, rhetoric, stylistic, and linguistic norms and tools to solving professional tasks;
• Apply theoretical and practical knowledge in philology and other sciences to research;
• Investigate the language system and folklore and literature in synchronic and diachronic aspects; summarize research results obtained by other specialists;
• Work as part of a team conducting research in philology, preparing and editing publications;
• Organize and conduct classroom and extracurricular activities in Russian and literature in schools and institutions of higher professional education;
• Employ the skills of simultaneous and consecutive interpreting at internationals forums and negotiations;
• Make public speeches;
• Use the skills of designing, modeling the structure and content of educational process;
• Participate in creating scientific, social, pedagogical, advertising and other projects;
• Organize and conduct seminars, discussions and conferences.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The objects of professional activity are: languages (native and foreign) in their theoretical and practical, synchronic and diachronic, social and cultural aspects; literature (national and world); folk arts in their historical and theoretical aspects in the light of their functioning in different countries and regions; different types of texts (written, oral, virtual); oral and written communication.

The course graduates are involved in the following types of activities: research, pedagogical, applied (interpreting, editing, examination), project, administrative.

The graduates are ready to work at research and pedagogical institutions, organizations and departments; in the system of secondary, secondary vocational and higher professional education; at institutions of education and culture; in the sphere of linguistic and social and cultural communication; in literature and art museums, etc.
