DESCRIPTION

The goal of the programme is to form students' competences necessary for implementing professional activities in the study field of dentistry. The mission of the programme is to train professional staff for the healthcare infrastructure, whose professional and personal competence meets the needs of the state, the professional community and the population.

AIMS

medical activity:
•    prevent diseases among the population by carrying out preventive and anti-epidemic measures;
•    diagnose dental diseases and pathological conditions of patients;
•    provision of dental care, including emergency, on an outpatient basis and in a day hospital;
•    participate in medical rehabilitation and recreation treatment for patients with dental diseases;
•    teaching patients the basic hygienic measures of a health-improving nature, contributing to the prevention of the occurrence of dental diseases and health promotion;
•    drawing up a comprehensive treatment plan for dental patients with acute and chronic dental diseases.

research activity:
•    participate in the solution of individual scientific and applied problems in the field of health care for diagnosis, treatment, medical rehabilitation and prevention;
•    analyse scientific literature and official statistical reviews, participate in statistical analysis and public presentation of the results.

organisation and management activity:
•    apply the basic principles of organising the provision of dental care in medical organisations and their structural units;
•    maintaining medical records in medical organisations;
•    organise medical examination.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the programme the student should be able to:
•    examine a patient with dental diseases in order to make a diagnosis;
•    prescribe, monitor the effectiveness and safety of drug-free and drug treatment of dental diseases;
•    provide medical care in urgent and emergency forms;
•    develop, implement and monitor the effectiveness of individual rehabilitation programmes for patients with dental diseases;
•    carry out and monitor the effectiveness of sanitary and anti-epidemic and other preventive measures to protect the health of the population;
•    conduct sanitary and hygienic education among the population and medical workers in order to form a healthy lifestyle;
•    carry out organisational and management activity;
•    search and select information in accordance with the set goals, analyse the information received from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Upon completion of training, graduates are awarded the qualification of a dentist, and after passing the initial accreditation of a specialist, they have the right to provide dental care on an outpatient basis and in a hospital environment.
