DESCRIPTION
AIMS
medical activity:
• preventing disease emergence among the population through conducting preventive and anti-epidemic measures;
• conducting preventive medical examinations;
• conducting processing and medical and statistical analysis of information and health indicators of the population of various age and gender groups, which characterise the state of their health;
• diagnosing diseases and pathological conditions in patients;
• diagnosing emergency conditions;
• diagnosing pregnancy;
• assessing temporary disability and conducting other forms of medical examination;
• providing first aid in outpatient settings and day hospitals;
• providing first aid for spontaneous acute diseases and exacerbations of chronic diseases that are are not life-threatening and do not require emergency medical care;
• providing emergency medical services for conditions requiring immediate medical intervention;
• providing medical aid in emergencies, including medical evacuation;
• participating in medical rehabilitation and health resort treatment;
• shaping motivation among the population, patients and their families, aiming at maintaining and improving their health and the health of others;
• teaching patients general hygienic measures of a healthcare nature that facilitate the prevention of disease emergence and health promotion.

• creating favourable conditions for patient accommodation and labour activities of medical staff in medical organisations;
• keeping medical documentation in medical organisations;
• organising medical examinations;
• assessing the quality of providing medical care;
• observing the main requirements of information security.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• provide medical aid to patients in emergencies;
• examine patients to make a diagnosis;
• prescribe and assess the efficacy and safety of drugs, non-drug treatments, medical products, therapeutic diets, and other treatments;
• implement health care, make professional solutions in emergency situations at the pre-hospital stage, during epidemics and in outbreaks of mass destruction;
• implement and control the medical rehabilitation of a patient, including individual rehabilitation and habilitation programmes for patients with disabilities, as well as to assess the patient’s ability to work;
• conduct preventive measures for patients of various age groups and health conditions, as well as provide health education for the adult population to shape healthy lifestyles and monitor their effectiveness;
• organise work activities of subordinate medical staff and keep medical documentation.
