Pre-University Training

Students who come to study at Penza State University should not be afraid of language barriers. Students without any knowledge of Russian are first enrolled to the Pre-University Training Course. Here, the students learn both the Russian language and general disciplines.

There are 6 study majors:

  • Humanities
  • Economics
  • Natural Sciences
  • Biomedical Sciences
  • Technical Sciences
  • Humanities (for the applicants to the Bachelor’s degree programme Teacher Training: Music)

The choice of the major depends on the selected undergraduate course.

The instruction is held in Russian. Students are taken from the basic level to the higher levels of Russian language proficiency. Students also learn the elements of academic and professional language, which will be vital for their success during further studies.

Classes start from 1st October.
Latecomers can be admitted till 1st December.
Classes comprise 8-10 individuals.
The course of preliminary training lasts one academic year.

At the end of the course students are required to take final examinations in the Russian language and other disciplines studied during the course.

If students pass exams successfully, they are given a testifying document and they may further proceed to undergraduate courses.

Extracurricular work

The Department of Pre-University Training organises sightseeing tours in the city of Penza, the Penza Region and other Russia cities. Students also have the opportunity to visit museums and theaters, participate in concerts, and compete in sport events.

The joint educational and extracurricular activity of students from different countries enables establishing friendly relations among them and contributes to the psychological and cultural adaptation of international students.

Information for foreign citizens entering PSU to complete pre-university training course

To enter the Department of Pre-University Training foreign nationals should send the following documents to

• passport and its translation into Russian;
• education document and its translation into Russian.
