Research Groups
Research Groups
Research groups at Russian universities are undoubtedly our national treasure. Their assets include unique experience in developing and implementing original teaching methodologies and preparing personnel, as well as a vast array of scientific ideas, discoveries, and scientific and technical developments that contribute to the country's scientific and technological progress.
Reputable theoretical and applied research groups at PSU the success of the university’s research activities. PSU research groups are of great value within scientific community, which defines the university’s prestigious status. Each group aims at efficiently combining the production of new knowledge with the training and renewal of academic staff. The effectiveness of each group is demonstrated by its scientific reputation, research level, traditions, continuity of generations, level and quality of preparing highly qualified personnel, and scientific publications in the field of the group’s activities.
At Penza State University, independent research groups have been organised in several fields of study, namely in the physical, mathematical, natural, engineering, medical, socioeconomic sciences, and the humanities. The PSU research groups are highly efficient and recognised nationally and internationally. This is proved by the groups’ regular participation in Russian and international scientific conferences and symposia and by the work of their members as experts and reviewers in scientific journals, funding agencies, and programmes. The members of scientific groups form university and other dissertation councils, as well as editorial boards of periodicals.
It is the individuality of the founder of a research group that largely influences its working atmosphere and scientific and training style. “Every person has their own teacher who has made a lasting impact on who this person has become both as an individual and a professional. It is this teacher that they remember throughout their life and who becomes a single image of all those teachers to whom they are grateful” (I.A. Aleksandrov.)
A host of prominent scientists have educated the modern generation of scientists at Penza State University. Those are E. S. Atroshchenko, N. P. Vashkevich, K. D. Vishnevskiy, M. T. Gengin, I. P. Egorov, S. I. Zhakov, A. I. Martyashin, E. P. Osadchiy, N. A. Sharoshkin, E. K. Shakhov, and V. M. Shlyandin.
The activities of the research groups are aimed at conducting scientific research, the results of which are presented in the form of defended PhD and Doctor of Sciences dissertations, monographs, textbooks, numerous articles and conference presentations. These outcomes have been implemented into the educational process and published in leading Russian and international journals. One of the main objectives of the research groups is the training of scientific personnel and the cultivation of creativity among young scholars involved in their work. Over the course of their existence, the research schools have produced 980 defended dissertations, including 140 at the Doctor of Sciences level. Around 100 postgraduate students and external doctoral candidates are currently preparing their dissertations for defence.
Importantly, alongside the research groups that are already well established, the process of forming strong, independent research areas and respected academic teams at our university continues. A number of promising areas are currently under development, including information and telecommunication technologies and systems, knowledge-intensive industries, high-tech medicine, molecular ecology and animal systematics, Russian economic history, political science, jurisprudence, and others. Without exaggeration, this is a remarkable feature and a true asset of our university, reflecting the enduring connection between past, present, and future generations of mathematicians, physicists, biologists, engineers, educators, medical professionals, legal scholars, and economists.
