DESCRIPTION
The programme provides bachelor degree students with deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of applied information processes, information technologies and information systems. PSU has chosen the economic field of applying computer systems so the students of this programme study the principles of building economic information systems. They include computer systems of banks, trade businesses, industrial enterprises, insurance companies, tax services, planning agencies, stock markets and other economic structures. Each of them has its own specific features, so the students also study economics, accounting, management, administration theory and other economic disciplines.
Forms of in-class activity: lectures, laboratory classes, practical classes, review sessions, course paper guidance, and students’ individual work.
AIMS
project activity:
• examining the applied field according to the programme of training: gathering information for formalizing requirements of the company’s users, interviewing the company’s employees;
• working out requirements to information support and automation of applied processes, formalizing the project subject area;
• modelling applied and information processes, describing the implementation of applied processes information support;
• making up technical and economic feasibility study for the project decisions and technical design specification for the information system design;
• designing information systems in accordance with the specific features of the programme in types of support (software, information, organization, engineering);
• programming of applications, creating the information system prototype, documenting the information system projects at the life cycle stages, using functional and technological standards;
• participating in negotiations with the customer and identifying their information needs;
• gathering information for formalizing the project’s subject field and requirements of the company’s users;
• describing information support and implementation of business processes of the customer’s enterprise;
• participating in technical and operational design of information systems elements in accordance with the specific features of the training programme;
• programming in the course of information system design;
• documenting information system elements at the life cycle stages.

• installing information systems software and database load;
• adjusting information system parameters and testing the results of the adjustment;
• keeping technical documentation;
• testing information system elements in accordance with the given scenarios;
• participating in the information system expert testing in the shakedown period;
• teaching and counselling users on the questions of information systems exploitation;
• technical maintenance of information systems in the course of their exploitation;

LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• design information systems in accordance with the training programme;
• describe applied processes and provide information support for solving applied tasks;
• programme applications and create programme prototypes for solving applied tasks;
• draw up technical documentation for the projects of automation and information support of applied processes;
• exploit and support information systems and services;
• test elements of information systems software;
• install and adjust information systems software parameters;
• maintain databases and provide information support for solving applied tasks;
• present information systems and teach users;
• analyze, forecast, model and make reengineering of economic processes using modern information and communication technologies.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The graduates can be employed in enterprises and organizations of different profile and forms of properties in positions connected with creating and exploiting computer systems for economic purposes, that is as programmers, computer workstations operators, automated systems designers, information systems administrators.
On successful completion of the programme the graduates can continue their studies and take a master degree course.
