DESCRIPTION

 

The Specialist’s degree programme provides students with profound theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in law enforcement and related sciences. Graduates master legal norms and regulations upholding law and public order, ensuring security of individuals, society and state, combating crimes and other offences, executing punishment, and promoting legal education. They explore legal fundamentals of law enforcement, structure and principles of law enforcement agencies activity, tactics and methods of field work and detection, criminology and criminalistics investigation techniques of solving crimes and administrative offences, as well as methods of ensuring personal safety of law-enforcement officers.

Forms of in-class activity: lectures, laboratory classes, practical classes, review sessions, and individual work.

 

AIMS

 

law enforcement activity:
•    justifying and making decisions within the scope of official duties, performing actions associated with the implementation of legal norms;
•    producing legal documents;

service and fieldwork activity:
•    ensuring law, order, security of individuals, society and state;
•    protecting life and health of citizens, maintaining public order;
•    preventing, detecting, investigating and combating crimes and administrative offenses;
•    tackling and solving crimes and administrative offenses;
•    performing inquiry into criminal cases;
•    proceeding administrative offenses;
•    enforcing administrative enactments;
•    executing punishment;
•    conducting field work and detecting individuals;
•    protecting private, state, municipal and other property;
•    providing assistance to individuals and legal entities in defending their rights and legally protected interests;
•    collecting, analysing and assessing data relevant for implementing legal norms within law enforcement;

management activity:
•    managing and operating teams working in various law enforcement agencies;

research activity:
•    conducting applied research within law enforcement and related sciences;

teaching activity:
•    teaching legal disciplines in educational institutions of all levels;
•    promoting legal awareness among the population.

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:

•    apply knowledge of main legal concepts, categories, institutions, statuses and relations in the context of specific legal sciences;
•    make decisions and perform legal actions in strict accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, correctly characterise and classify facts, circumstances and events;
•    draft, produce and accurately file legal and official documents;
•    issue and explore regulations, standards and other legal documents;
•    fulfil official duties on ensuring law and order, security of individuals, society and state, on protecting life and health of citizens, and on maintaining public order;
•    respect and safeguard human and civil rights and freedoms;
•    detect, record and prevent crimes and offenses;
•    solve crimes and administrative offenses;
•    participate in legal proceedings;
•    apply tactics and methods of field work and detection while fulfilling professional duties;
•    forcefully prevent offenses, seize and convoy crime figures and offenders;
•    effectively use government-issue weapons and impact munitions according to law;
•    operate specialised equipment and machines to maintain law enforcement.

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

 

Programme graduates are employed in law enforcement agencies, lawyer and notary offices. They also can be engaged in private investigator practice. Graduates are enough trained to deliver legal and related disciplines.
