EUSOSEL project: course trainees learn how to fight poverty and social exclusion

On 21 October 2022, the trainees completed the professional training course “European Union practices of fighting poverty and social exclusion”. For three days, the representatives of local and regional authorities dealing with social security issues, as well as social workers, practicing lawyers, economists and law teachers considered the legal frameworks for combating poverty and social exclusion. In total, 28 persons completed the course.

The course involved taking the interactive assignments and creating a project based on the acquired knowledge and skills “What European practices of fighting poverty are relevant for the Russian Federation?”. The abstracts of speeches and presentations were delivered during the final discussion, during which the trainees shared their findings and exchanged their practices.

On successful completion of the professional training course, the trainees are able to:
•    review the history and significance of EU social law;
•    discuss ideas and practices used in European social security law, including fighting poverty;
•    interpret main provisions of the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion and other social documents in the EU;
•    analyse provisions of EU documents on fighting poverty and social exclusion;
•    identify European practices applicable to Russian law.

Following the course, all trainees were issued the certificates of completion of the established form in Russian and English.

This professional training course was developed by the EUSOSEL project team represented by Dr. Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines, and Dr. Anastasiia Ryzhova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines.

The next activity with the EUSOSEL project will be the interactive training course “The European Union and its social law” for senior schoolchildren. The course is scheduled for February 2023. The schoolchildren will be asked to consider the history of the establishment of the European Union, its institutional basis and legal frameworks.
