DESCRIPTION
The main objective of the programme is to prepare a bachelor in the field of materials science and technology of materials, capable of making rational choice of materials in accordance with the given conditions of operation of products, to research and develop new materials and compositions, to design technological processes of production, processing and recycling of materials.
AIMS
technological activity:
• participating in obtaining and using (processing, exploitation and utilisation) materials for various purposes;
• participating in the design of high-tech processes at the stage of pilot testing and implementation;
• conducting maintenance and diagnostics of measurement tools and testing equipment;
• participating in quality control of measurements and tests, data processing, and compliance with quality requirements;
• designing high-tech processes as part of the primary design and technology unit;
• developing design and working technical documentation;
• conducting expertise to determine the causes of defects in production and destruction of metal products, parts and structures during operation.
research activity:
• collecting data on existing types and grades of materials, their structure and properties in relation to the solution of the set tasks using databases and literature sources;
• participating in the work of a group of specialists in the performance of experiments and processing of their results on the creation, research and selection of materials, assessment of their technological and service qualities by analysing their structure and properties, mechanical, corrosion and other tests.;
• collecting scientific and technical information on the subject of experiments for the preparation of reviews, reports and scientific publications, participation in the preparation of reports on the completed assignment;
• keeping records and executing design and working technical documentation, records and protocols; verifying the compliance of developed projects and technical documentation with regulatory documents;
• fulfilling the requirements of regulatory documentation when developing design and technical documentation; analysing the global market of raw materials and metals based on information on the processes of producing ore concentrates, sinter, pellets, as well as pig iron, steel and iron-based alloys and other metals of the required quality.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• design innovative technological processes for obtaining and processing materials to achieve the required set of characteristics;
• implement technological processes of production, taking into account environmental and economic factors;
• choose materials and manage the quality of the finished product based on the operational conditions of products;
• collect and process information on existing material types, grades, structures and properties, analyse and systemize it to solve set tasks;
• simulate, organise and implement experimental studies on the set topic in the area of materials science and materials technology, process, analyze and formalize the results of the study.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
The graduates who have successfully mastered the programme are able to implement professional activities in studying, developing, organising and managing technological processes of processing materials and elements at machine building enterprises, in design and research institutes and organisations, take a position of a master, design engineer, process engineer, quality engineer, scientific worker, and many other positions.
