DESCRIPTION

The programme’s mission is to help students of teacher education form universal, general professional and professional competences, which will allow them to successfully function in the modern labour market as a teacher of history and social studies, or as a teacher of supplementary education. As a result of training, in accordance with the requirements of employers, a bachelor should possess fundamental knowledge of history and social studies and meet the modern requirements for teachers’ activities in designing and implementing of the educational process, as well as in setting and implementing various types of educational work.

AIMS

training activity:
•    designing elements of the educational process in history and social studies in accordance with the provisions and requirements for the organisation of the educational process in history / social studies, defined by federal state educational standards for general education, age characteristics of students, and didactic goals of a class;
•    selecting content for a course in history / social studies in an educational organisation of general education, as well as methods, techniques, and technologies, including information technology, organised forms of classes, and diagnostic tools in accordance with planned learning outcomes;
•    designing a teacher’s working programme for classes in history / social studies, outline plan / flow chart of a class;
•    justifying the selection of learning methods for classes in history and social studies and educational technologies, applying them in educational practice, considering the characteristics of the content of learning materials and the age and educational needs of students;
•    forming an educational environment for students to achieve personal, subject and meta-subject goals when studying history and social studies;
•    planning individual assistance and support for students depending on their characteristics and educational abilities and needs;
•    elaborating individualised programmes, methodological developments and didactic materials, taking into account students’ individual characteristics;
•    assessing students’ achievements based on the mutual supplementation of qualitative and quantitative characteristics of educational outcomes.

•    comprehending the components of the educational environment and their didactic capacity;
•    comprehending principles and approaches to organising the subject field of history and social studies, as well as the scientific, research, and educational potential of the region in which the educational process is conducted;
•    justifying the inclusion of scientific, research and educational objects in the educational environment and the process of teaching history and social studies;
•    using opportunities of the sociocultural environment of the region in order to achieve learning outcomes in history and social studies;
•    designing elements of the educational environment for classes in history and social studies, taking into account the opportunities of a specific region;
•    developing individualised learning materials for classes in history and social studies, taking into account students’ characteristics and special educational needs;
•    developing and conducting individual and group classes in history and social studies for students with special educational needs.

methodological activity:
•    comprehending patterns, principles and levels of forming and implementing of the content of historical and social knowledge;
•    comprehending the structure, content and didactic units of a school course in history and social studies;
•    selecting the learning content for implementation in various forms of history and social studies teaching in accordance with didactic goals and students’ age characteristics;
•    possessing the subject content of history and social studies;
•    analysing ways of organising students’ educational activities when learning history and social studies, as well as methods to motivate students for learning and research work in history and social studies;
•    planning and organising various types of learning activities during the educational process in history and social studies;
•    applying methods to maintain learning interest;
•    applying theoretical and practical knowledge to solve research tasks in the subject and educational fields;
•    analysing learning materials from the point of view of their scientific nature and the methodological expediency of their application in professional activities;
•    defining content, methodological and worldview relations between the subject field and adjacent scientific fields.

cultural and educational activity:
•    studying and shaping the needs of children and adults for cultural and educational activities;
•    searching and applying efficient methods to identify and form cultural demands and needs of various social groups;
•    organising a cultural and educational environment;
•    developing and implementing cultural and educational programmes for various social groups.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
•    conduct professional activities in accordance with professional ethics and regulatory legal acts in the field of education;
•    participate in the development of basic and supplementary educational programmes, develop their separate elements, including with the use of information and communications technology;
•    organise joint and individual learning and educational activities for students, including those with special educational needs, in accordance with the requirements of federal state educational standards;
•    implement moral education for students based on basic national values;
•    implement control and assessment of students’ educational outcomes, identify and correct learning difficulties;
•    apply psychological and training technologies in professional activities necessary for individualisation of learning, development and education, including for those with special educational needs;
•    interact with the participants of educational relationships within the implementation of educational programmes;
•    implement training activities based on specialised scientific knowledge;
•    comprehend the operational principles of modern information technology and apply them for solving professional activity tasks;
•    implement educational programmes at various levels in accordance with modern methods and technologies, including information technology, in order to ensure the quality of the educational process.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The graduate is able to carry out pedagogical activities in the design and implementation of the educational process in educational institutions of basic general, secondary general, secondary vocational, and supplementary vocational education in the field of history and social studies.
