DESCRIPTION

The programme's mission is to train highly qualified specialists who are familiar with current trends in the functioning of the media and other components of the media system, as well as deeply versed in current media processes, who are able to practically apply the system of scientific knowledge and skills of research, organisational, and project work in the work of a journalist. The programme aims to provide students with in-depth knowledge of the methodology, theory and practice of modern media and other components of the media system, to introduce them to the latest approaches to creating online media and digital media content, as well as the basics of implementing information policy in the Russian Federation. The programme forms students' universal, general professional and professional competencies necessary in the field of communications, information and communications technology, mass media, publishing and printing, promotes their personal and professional growth, further self-improvement and self-development.

AIMS

organisation and management activity:
•    conducting organisation and management functions in accordance with the strategies of the development of the media and media projects.

project and analytical activity:
•    developing concepts for media projects of various natures and planning their prospects.

research activity:
•    conducting research on various aspects of the functioning of media and other types of mass communication, based on individually developed or adapted methodology and methods;
•    implementing research methods in professional activities.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
•    plan, organise and coordinate the process of creating demanded by society or industry media texts / media products / communication products, monitor and consider changes in the norms of Russian and foreign languages and peculiarities of other sign systems;
•    analyse the main trends in the development of public and state institutions in order to cover them in a multifaceted manner in media texts / media products / communication products being created;
•    analyse the diversity of achievements in Russian and foreign culture when creating media texts / media products / communication products;
•    analyse the needs of society and the interests of audience in order to forecast and meet demands for media texts / media products/ communication products;
•    analyse current trends in the development of media communication systems of the region, country and world, according to political and economic mechanisms of their operation, as well as legal and ethical regulating norms, when carrying out professional activities;
•    select modern technical means and information and communications technology and implement them in the process of media production;
•    assess and forecast possible effects in the media sphere, adhering to the principles of social responsibility;
•    develop a concept for an online publication / information agency website and ensure the implementation of requirements for the artwork and technical design;
•    organise the work of the editorial department of an online publication and/or information agency and implement cooperation between departments;
•    implement organisation and management activities of various difficulty levels in an online publication / information agency and coordinate the editorial process;
•    conduct fundamental research in the field of journalism and media, based on individually developed or adapted methodology and methods;
•    conduct applied analytical and research work in terms of assessing the activities of an online media editorial office, promoting media products in the media market using research methods and modern efficiency control tools.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates are able to work as an executive secretary, journalist, correspondent, editor, producing editor, art director in news agencies, online publications and other media companies in the region and the country.
