Department of Criminal Law

The Department of Criminal Law is engaged in training highly qualified specialists in the field of criminal law, who have profound theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It focuses on organising professional development of its staff, carrying out research, designing textbooks and study guides, and administering disciplines within the degree programmes.

The department comprises the forensic laboratory, which was established to provide students with practical skills in solving crimes and detecting traces of crimes within the detection and investigation activity. The laboratory familiarises students with forensic equipment. They explore various types of fixing material evidence, principles of dactyloscopy, modern technical means of drawing up portraits according to external characteristics of person’s description, etc.

The department actively cooperates with law enforcement agencies and public authorities in the Penza Region, namely Public Prosecution Office, Division of the Investigative Committee, Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, City Administration, Department of Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Enforcement, Legislative Assembly, and City Council.

For several years the Department of Criminal Law has been holding career guidance meetings with schoolchildren and their parents in the Penza Region. In addition, its staff conduct elective classes in legal and humanities disciplines for Penza schoolchildren.
