Department of Sport and Physical Training

The Department of Sport and Physical Training was established at Industrial Institute in 1948. Since then teaching staff of the department are engaged in teaching and sport promoting activities. At present, the department provides physical education classes to Bachelor’s, Specialist’s and Master’s degree students exploring such study fields as mathematics, law, engineering, economics, tourism, physics, commerce and many others.

Research of the department mainly focuses on psychophysiological, medical and biological capabilities of athletes. Understanding sports training as a process implies the necessity to manage and supervise it. Available instrumental techniques provide an additional opportunity for creative search and effective solutions to the assigned tasks. To determine training effects of an urgent, delayed and cumulative nature, the following instrumental methods are used: Polar RS X5 Bike, Oxytest-1 Device, Accutrend Pius Biochemical Analyser, BC-418 МА Adipose Mass Analyser, PAKF-02 Software and Hardware Set for Psychophysiological Testing, etc.

As modern sports are characterised by progressive increase in training and competitive loads, the problem of recovery is as important as training itself. Therefore, staff of the department investigate psychological, medical and biological methods and means of restoring and improving the performance of athletes.

The department supervises several major sport events, such as University Olympics and Residence Halls Olympics, which annually bring together more than 3000 students. Its participants compete in track-and-field athletics, volleyball, powerlifting, cross-country skiing, football, table tennis, and streetball. Teaching staff of the department see such events as the opportunity to involve students in an active and healthy lifestyle and improve their wellbeing.
