Igor Artyomov was born on 9 October, 1950, in Vilnius, Lithuania. In 1973 he graduated the Faculty of Mechanics and Technology, Penza Polytechnic Institute. From 1973 to 1977 he worked as an engineer at the Institute. From 1977 to 1981 he took a full-time post-graduate course at Moscow Machine-Instrument Institute and in 1981 he defended a thesis and became a candidate of engineering sciences. From 1981 to 1989 he was a teaching assistant, then a senior teacher and an associate professor at Penza Polytechnic Institute. In 1985-1986 he had a 10-months internship in Romania. From 1989 to 1992 Igor Artyomov took a doctorate course at Moscow Machine-Instrument Institute and before the scheduled date he defended a doctor's thesis and became Doctor of Engineering Sciences. From 1992 to 1997 he worked as an associate professor and later as a professor at Penza State University. In 1997 he was elected Head of Department “Machine and Instrument Details” (in 2001 the department was renamed “Transport Machines”). In 1999 he became the Dean of the Faculty of “Mobile Systems” which was later reorganized into the Institute of Transport, in 2008 – into the Faculty of Transport and Power-Engineering. In 2009 he became the Dean of the merged Faculty of Machine Building, Transport and Power-Engineering. In October 2010 he was appointed Vice Rector for Research.
For his contribution into science and education Igor Artyomov received a lot of awards from the city administration (1994 and 2000), from the university and non-governmental organizations. He had an entry on the Awards and Recognition Board of the university. In 1999 he was given the title of “Honorary worker of higher professional education of the Russian Federation”, in 2002 he received the Governor’s grant. In 2003 he was awarded a letter of recognition from the Governor of the Penza Region, in 2006 he got the title “Honored Science Worker of the Russian Federation”, in 2010 he was given a letter of recognition from the Legislative Assembly of the Penza Region and an award “For contribution into development of Penza”, in 2013 – a commemorative medal “350 Penza anniversary”. In 2013 in honour of 70 anniversary of Penza State University he was conferred the title of Professor Emeritus of Penza State University.
Igor Artyomov trained 12 candidates of sciences and three doctors of sciences. He is the member of the editorial board of the journals “University Proceedings. Volga Region”, “New Industrial Technologies”, “Science-driven Technologies in Machine Building”, “Engineering reference journal”. He is the head of the research group of the university “Integrated support of transport and technological machines quality factors”.
He is the author of 190 scientific works.
