The Department of Hygiene, Public Health and Healthcare was established in 2002 under the auspices of the territorial administration office of the Russian Federal State Agency for Health and Consumer Rights (Rospotrebnadzor) in the Penza Region.

Training is provided to the students of the Medical Institute (study fields include General Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy and Paediatrics) in various disciplines, including hygiene, public health and healthcare and history of pharmacy. To make the academic process efficient, the teaching staff of the department have designed and published 33 teaching and learning aids on healthcare, hygiene and public health.

In addition to teaching and learning, the department promotes research among its students and teaching staff. The student research team “Health” was created in 2009 and focused on modern techniques of healthcare management, psychological-pedagogical and medical-social bases for building healthy habits. During the meetings, the research team members explore the current problems and solutions in the medical area, discuss the recent advances in theory and practice and deliver reports on the results of their activity. The student research team is supervised by the teaching staff of the department, so that the students write publications and make presentations at different scientific events. Every year, the department arranges the session “Hygiene, Public Health and Healthcare” as part of the research-to-practice conference held at Penza State University.
