The research group on EU social law has been functioning since the launch of the project “Social Security Law in the European Union” (EUSOSEL). The group engages Bachelor students, Master students, postgraduate students and scientists of Penza State University.

As a goal, the members of the research group identified discussion of topical issues in social law (providing social support for youth, reducing social impact of the pandemic etc.). Currently, they are actively involved in developing research projects, preparing speeches for participation in various forums and conferences, as well as writing research articles on the topics of interest. Some of the achievements of the research group members can be found in the section “Research” of the project website.

Based on the results of monthly meetings with the research group members and exchange of ideas and opinions on the relevant issues, Maria Chuvatova, Master student in the Institute of Law at PSU, prepared the research article “Measures of social support of the population in the context of a pandemic: legislative experience of Germany”. Anna Aleksandrova, PhD in Legal Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Legal Disciplines and manager of the project “Social Security Law in the European Union” (EUSOSEL) acted as her supervisor. Maria Chuvatova reviews the social policy of the Federal Republic of Germany in the context of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic. The article analyses the measures of social support for the population in all spheres of life. In addition, a new procedure for the payment of social benefits is being evaluated. Special attention is paid to support of employment and social protection of working and unemployed citizens.

The master student also shared her impressions of participating in the activity of the research group: “Thanks to my supervisor and teacher of the Department of State and Legal Disciplines A.V. Aleksandrova, I joined the research group on EU social law. Since the beginning of the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) pandemic, I have become interested in issues of social support for the population. I shared my ideas and findings with students and teachers who are also members of this research group. Taking into account the recommendations of the supervisor and the comments of the members of the research group, I prepared a scientific article for the journal “Bulletin of the Penza State University”. My article, which touches upon the legislative practices of Germany in providing social support to the population in a pandemic, was accepted for publication. I do not plan to stop there, as there are a lot of topics worthy exploring”.
