DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the programme is to deepen theoretical knowledge and further enhance the practical training of a resident on the basis of knowledge and skills in pathological anatomy acquired during university studies, necessary for further full-fledged independent work as a pathologist with universal, general professional and professional competencies that contribute to his social mobility and stability in the labour market.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• conduct lifetime pathological examinations of biopsy (surgical) material;
• conduct postmortem pathological anatomy examinations (pathological autopsy);
• identify causes of death and conduct differential diagnosis based on the obtained theoretical knowledge and diagnostic algorithm skills;
• interpret the results of laboratory and instrumental research methods;
• conduct training activities, such as training junior medical staff;
• analyse medical and statistical information, keep medical documentation and organise work activities of subordinate medical staff;
• provide emergency medical aid for conditions requiring immediate medical intervention;
• apply information and communications technology in professional activities and observe the requirements of information security;
• apply basic principles of organisation and management in the field of healthcare and assessment of the quality of medical aid using main medical and statistical indicators.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates are employed as pathologists in institutions of the pathology service at various levels, such as divisions of the pathoanatomical service as part of medical and preventive and scientific research institutions (pathoanatomical departments of medical and preventive institutions, pathomorphological departments of diagnostic centers and other medical institutions, pathomorphological departments of scientific research institutions) and pathology institutions with the rights of a legal entity, funded and accountable to the relevant territorial health management body (republican, regional, regional, city, municipal pathology bureaus, regional institutes of pathology).
