DESCRIPTION

The programme provides Bachelor’s degree students with academic knowledge and practical skills required in biological sciences. The Bachelor’s degree students study the fundamentals of social and economic sciences and the Humanities that facilitate their inclusion in modern society.

The graduates obtain higher professional education in the sphere of professional disciplines taking into account the regional requirements for studying wildlife and its patterns, using biological systems for economic and medical purposes, protecting the environment and developing competences in the course of Master’s degree programmes in biology.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:

•    operate modern equipment and facilities while conducting research field and laboratory biological works;
•    apply techniques of compiling scientific and technical reports, reviews, analytical maps and explanatory notes in practice;
•    provide and analyse the information obtained and present the results of field and laboratory biological studies;
•    apply knowledge of psychological and pedagogical fundamentals while teaching biological disciplines, conducting educational activity in order to raise biological and environmental awareness of people;
•    incorporate general academic knowledge of modern biological theory and methods in production;
•    apply modern means of processing and analysing field, production and laboratory biological data, as well as rules of elaborating scientific and technical projects and reports;
•    use regulatory documents indicating management and safety rules;
•    monitor the safety of products derived from biotechnology and biomedicine;
•    apply management techniques in biological and biomedical production, methods of monitoring and protecting the environment, recovering and protecting biological resources, as well as the techniques of environmental management;
•    use key technical means of retrieving scientific and biological information, multi-purpose packages of applied computer programmes;
•    design bases of experimental biological data, work with biological information in global computer networks;
•    know fundamental and applied aspects of modern biochemistry and molecular biology;
•    know and apply variable techniques of molecular diagnosis in order to extend medical knowledge in aetiology, pathogenesis and diagnosis of diseases;
•    expert in molecular, protein, metabolic and cell engineering;
•    develop effective ways for studying the structure, features and mechanisms of major biomolecule classes.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The graduates are employed in research institutions, manufacturing enterprises and supervisory bodies of the corresponding field. They may serve as specialists in biological diagnosis laboratories, hygienic epidemiological, biochemical and medical organisations, as well as academics in the establishments of general, vocational and higher education.
