DESCRIPTION
The programme provides master degree students with the knowledge of mathematical principles of informatics which is necessary for professional activity. It teaches the students to identify problems and trends of software market development and forms the willingness to use the method of system modelling in research and design of software systems, to choose architecture and complexation of modern computers, systems and complexes.
Forms of in-class activity: lectures, laboratory classes, practical classes, review sessions, students’ individual work, research work, practices.
AIMS
research activity:
• developing work plans and programmes for conducting research and engineering design;
• preparing tasks for performers;
• gathering, processing, analyzing and systemizing research and engineering information on the theme of research;
• choosing methods and techniques for solving problems;
• developing mathematical models of the processes under study;
• developing methods for designing new processes and products;
• developing methods for automation of decision-making;
• organizing experiments and test, analyzing their results;
• preparing research and engineering reports, reviews, articles on the results of the conducted research;
project activity:
• preparing tasks for making project decisions;
• developing projects of automated systems for different purposes, substantiating the choice of hardware and software for automation and information support of enterprises and organizations;
• conceptual design of complex products, including software complexes with the use of automated design tools, best practices of designing competitive products;
• implementing projects in creating software, databases and programme systems of automated information systems;
• developing and implementing projects on integrating information systems according to the methods and standards of information support of products, including methods and standards of document flow, integrated logistic support, software and database quality evaluation, electronic business;
• conducting technical and economic, functional cost analysis of efficiency of the systems under design;
• developing methodological and regulatory documents, technical documentation, as well as suggestions and events on implementing the designed projects and software;
production and technological activity:
• designing and applying modern tools in implementing software and hardware projects;
• developing methods of implementation and support of software products;
• developing functional specifications for designing software for control techniques and technological provision of industrial production and their implementation with the help of automated design tools;
• testing software products and databases;
• choosing systems of providing ecological safety of production.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
• learn new research methods, change the research and production profile of their professional activity;
• conduct research;
• apply to practice the skills of organizing research and development activities, of managing a team;
• take the initiative, in particular in situations of risk; take responsibility;
• use information technologies to acquire new knowledge and apply it to practice, also in new fields of knowledge, not directly connected to professional activity;
• exploit up-to-date equipment and devices (according to the objectives of the mas-ter degree programme);
• make reports on the research conducted and prepare articles on the research results;
• perceive mathematical, natural sciences, social, economic and professional knowledge; acquire, develop and apply them to solve non-standard tasks, as well as in a new or unknown environment and in an interdisciplinary context;
• think logically, interpret the data integrated from different fields of science and engineering, draw conclusions based on incomplete information;
• analyze and evaluate their competence levels and self-regulate their further education and professional mobility;
• speak at least one foreign language for social and professional interaction, use special vocabulary and professional linguistic terms;
• collect, store, process and transfer information by means of new computer technologies, in particular in global computer networks;
• analyze professional information, point out the most important items, structure it and present it in the form of analytical reviews with conclusions and recommendations;

• apply the existing methods and algorithms for solving tasks of data recognizing and processing and of digital image processing;

• design distributed information systems, their elements and their communication protocols;
• design systems with parallel data processing and highly productive systems and their elements;
• design and implement plans for information support of enterprises and department on the basis of Web- and CALS-technologies;
• draw up design specifications and participate in developing software and (or) hardware;
• choose methods and develop algorithms for solving management tasks and automation objects design tasks;
• implement distributed information systems, systems with parallel data processing and highly productive systems;
• develop software for data analysis, recognition and processing, systems for digital signal processing;
• create networking protocol services;
• organize industrial testing of the software under development;
• develop software for three-dimensional image creation;
• apply up-to-date technologies of software complexes development with the use of CASE-tools, control the quality of the software products under development.
EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates can be employed in IT-enterprises, in business firms engaged in creating, developing and implementing information technologies systems, products and services. On successful completion of the programme the graduates can continue their studies and take a post-graduate course.
