DESCRIPTION

 
The purpose of the programme is to ensure that graduates are trained for professional activities in the field of mass media, publishing and printing on the basis of a competence-based approach. The programme is aimed at developing universal, general professional and professional competencies necessary for effective and successful performance of professional duties. The implementation of the programme allows students to gain fundamental knowledge, practical training and promotes the development of creative abilities. Knowledge and skills are formed in preparing (collecting information, writing and editing) a text for publication in print or online media, a television programme for broadcast, and organisational skills necessary in the field of mass media.
 

AIMS

 
author’s activity:
•    creating media products that meet the requirements of relevance and ensure the implementation of the needs and interests of the audience;
•    creating media products based on the typology of media, their specifics, history, current state, and genre peculiarities.

editorial activity:
•    conducting editorial activities in accordance with language norms, standards, formats, and styles.

organisation activity:
•    organising the work of a media editorial office in terms of planning the department’s activities, managing compliance with the editorial policy and interaction with the external environment;
•    organise the work of the editorial staff in creating a journalistic product (printed, audio-visual, multimedia).
 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:

•    create demanded by society or industry media texts / media products / communication products in compliance with norms of Russian and foreign languages and peculiarities of other sign systems;
•    take into account trends in the development of public and state institutions in order to cover them in a multifaceted manner in media texts / media products / communication products being created;
•    use the diversity of achievements in Russian and foreign culture when creating media texts / media products / communication products;
•    take into account trends in the development of media communication systems of the region, country and world, according to economic mechanisms of their operation, as well as ethical regulating norms, when carrying out professional activities;
•    implement works in forming the content and form of a media product, subsequently presenting current information to the population through the media;
•    implement author’s activities, taking into account the specifics of various media types and existing Russian and foreign experience;
•    select and edit the author’s material for publication and broadcasting;
•    organise the work of departments on creating and publishing media products;
•    organise the creation of a journalistic text and (or) product.

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

 

A graduate who has mastered this programme can work in the editorial offices of mass media (periodicals, television, news agencies, online media, etc.), use in practice a variety of methods to collect, prepare, and present relevant information to the audience through the media. Graduates can hold the following positions in media editorial offices, as well as state, municipal, and public organisations with media-related divisions: correspondent, reporter, editor, producing editor, programme host, producer, creative producer, media manager, press secretary, content manager, etc.
