DESCRIPTION

 
The purpose of the programme is to train highly qualified paediatricians who possess not only the necessary universal, general professional and professional competencies, but also combine high education, willingness to carry out professional activities in the context of healthcare reform, increasing demands on the quality of medical care for children and adolescents, and the introduction of high-tech and innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment.
 

AIMS

 
diagnostic activity:
•    diagnosing diseases and pathological conditions in children;
•    diagnosing emergency conditions in children.

treatment activity:
•    planning clinical research, introducing research outcomes into practice with the use of methods of mathematical statistics and evidence-based medicine;
•    providing first aid for children with spontaneous acute diseases and exacerbations of chronic diseases, which are either life-threatening or not;
•    assessing the efficacy and safety of drug and non-drug treatments for children.

rehabilitation activity:
•    conducting examination for temporary disability and other types of medical examinations;
•    conducting medical rehabilitation and health resort treatment for children. 

preventive activity:
•    preventing disease emergence among the population through conducting preventive and anti-epidemic measures;
•    conducting preventive medical examinations for children;
•    shaping motivation among the population, patients and their families, aiming at maintaining and improving their health and the health of others;
•    teaching children and their parents (legal representatives) general hygienic measures of a healthcare nature that facilitate the prevention of disease emergence and health promotion.

organisation and management activity:
•    applying the main principles of organising medical care for children in medical organisations and their structural units; 
•    keeping medical documentation in medical organisations;
•    assessing the quality of providing medical care;
•    observing the main requirements of information security.
 

LEARNING OUTCOMES

 

On successful completion of the course the student should be able to:
•    examine children to make a diagnosis;
•    prescribe and assess the efficacy and safety of drugs, non-drug treatments, medical products, therapeutic diets, and other treatments for children;
•    implement and control the effectiveness of individual rehabilitation programmes for children;
•    conduct preventive measures for children of various age groups and health conditions, as well as to provide health education for parents and children to shape healthy lifestyles and monitor their effectiveness;
•    organise work activities of subordinate medical staff and keep medical documentation.

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

 

Graduates are employed as general paediatricians in medical treatment and preventive care institutions.
