Department of Private and Public Law
The Department of Private and Public Law originated in 1991 and received its present name in 2011. Staff of the department are professionals with great research and teaching experience. Currently, the department consists of 4 Doctors of Legal Sciences, 9 Candidates of Legal Sciences and 2 Senior Lecturers.
The graduates worthily represent the department in the Supreme Arbitration Court of the Russian Federation, Arbitration Courts in the Penza Region and beyond, general jurisdiction courts, as well as prosecutor, lawyer and notary offices. They are also employed by private legal structures and various public organisations.
The major focus of the research at the department is topical issues of civil law in modern conditions. In addition, staff of the department motivate students to conduct research within their academic activity. They initiate launching research projects within the academic disciplines and practical trainings. Students may also undertake individual research within his or her interests. This activity is supported by the student research societies “Burning issues in advocacy” and “Challenges in civil law”.
The department arranges and holds the intellectual competition “BRAIN RING” for students. The competition consists of two stages: debate (as a qualifying stage) and intellectual game. The topics for debate include gender inequality, death penalty and interethnic marriages. Moreover, the department organises the international youth legal forum “Combating extremism” and regional research-to-practice conference “Elections rights of persons with disabilities”. Jointly with the Russian Federal Bar Association, the department implements the educational project “School of Law – Academia Legis” and hosts the charity event “Young lawyers for the youth”.
