Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology originated in 2002. The clinical bases for it were N.A. Semashko Clinical Hospital and N.N. Burdenko Penza Region Clinical Hospital. Due to restructuring the obstetric and gynaecological service in Penza, Penza City Maternity Hospital has been the main clinical base of the department since 2007. Learning, teaching and research are also conducted in the Simulation Centre of Penza State University.
Over the years, more than 2500 students have been trained in obstetrics and gynaecology within the Specialist’s degree programmes (particularly General Medicine and Paediatrics) and about 100 obstetricians and gynaecologists within the clinical residency programme “Obstetrics and Gynaecology”. All graduates of the department are employed within the studied areas in various constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
Since 2015, the teaching staff oversee the research activity of the students. In addition to regular classes, the students have the opportunity to contribute to the research team “Obstetrics and Gynaecology”. During the meeting of the research team they analyse clinical cases and theoretically substantiate modern views on disorders and anomalies in pregnancy and childbirth.
The teaching staff of the department regularly update teaching aid for students and clinical residents and present new approaches to maintaining women health and managing childbirth. The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is engaged in the Reproductive Health Platform within the national strategy for the development of medical science in the Russian Federation.
