Penza State University launches a Russian-Mexican project: students and schoolchildren from Russia and Mexico will share their cultural features with each other
The Department of Foreign Languages and Professional Communication at Penza State University has launched an initiative project “Penza – Monterrey: Cross-Cultural Exchange for Peace and Understanding,” which is being implemented jointly with Tecnológico de Monterrey school (Monterrey, Mexico).
The Russian project manager is Tatiana Dubrovskaya, Doctor of Linguistic Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Professional Communication.
The project aims at introducing Russian and Mexican cultures, learning about people's daily lives, and establishing personal connections.
The first meeting between participants from Russia and Mexico took place last week, on October 2. Penza State University students from groups 22ЭА1 and 24ВП1, led by Tatiana Dubrovskaya and senior lecturer Elena Meshcheryakova, discussed plans for further collaboration with Mexican high school students. Roberto Garcia, Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Social Sciences, supervised the international students.
The meeting was opened by Tatiana Dubrovskaya. She welcomed the participants and outlined the project's aims and plans.
At the beginning of the meeting, the students discussed various stereotypes about the cultures and lifestyles of Russia and Mexico. Both sides shared what they knew about each other's lives, asked questions, and learned more about the cultures and traditions of both countries. High school students from Mexico brought objects symbolizing Mexican culture to the meeting. For example, a rag doll in a bright dress with a large head adorned with ribbons represents the women of the Mazahua, an indigenous people of Mexico.
PSU student Victoria Savinkina gave a presentation about Penza, showed the participants photographs of the city's landmarks and attractions, and talked about the region's industry and agriculture.
All the participants showed great interest in the discussion and are eagerly looking forward to the next meeting.
