Penza State University students became diploma winners of the Russian regional final — the Northern Eurasia Finals — of the team student world contest in programming. The second-degree diploma was won by PSU students, ahead of many teams from Russia and neighboring countries (48th place out of 267 teams).

The contest took place from December 13 to 15 in St. Petersburg at ITMO University.

Penza State University was represented by the team of the Faculty of Computer Engineering consisting of: Vadim Dorofeev, Ainur Abuzyarov, Artem Kalugin.

It should be noted that the ICPC International Collegiate Programming Contest has been held since 1977 using a multi-level system: all universities in the world are divided into regions, where regional finals are held (in Russia, this is the Northern Eurasia Finals in St. Petersburg). In large regions, selection for the regional finals is based on the results of regional semi-finals (for our region, this is the Southern and Volga Russian Regional Contest in Saratov, which includes 26 subjects of the Russian Federation).

The team members had been preparing for the student contest for several months. According to them, such a high result is primarily due to their coaches Evgeny Grishin and Artyom Denisov, graduates of the Department of Mathematical Support and Computer Application as well as to their supervisor, Lev Guryanov, Candidate of Engineering Sciences, Associate Professor, of the Department.
