PSU enters the ranking of the most environmentally friendly universities in the country and the world
Penza State University has once again confirmed its title as one of the most environmentally friendly universities in the country and the world. This is evidenced by the world ranking UI GreenMetric World University Ranking - 2024, which evaluates the environmental friendliness of campuses and the environmental sustainability of universities. In fact, it reflects the influence and participation of the university in improving the environment.
The GreenMetric World University Ranking evaluates global universities that strive to contribute to improving the environment and environmental safety by integrating the latest achievements of science and technology into the energy efficiency strategy of the campus, city, region and country ecosystem.
In 2024, 1,477 universities from 95 countries entered the top of the “greenest” universities.
This year, the ranking evaluates universities in six main categories: “Infrastructure” (weight - 15%), “Energy and Climate Change” (weight - 21%), “Waste” (weight - 18%), “Water” (weight - 10%), “Transportation” (weight - 18%), “Education and Research” (weight - 18%).
Penza State University ranked 1123rd among world universities and 39th among 50 Russian universities in the GreenMetric ranking. It should be noted that PSU has been included in the GreenMetric ranking since 2015.
The total score for the six indicator groups was 4050 (max 10,000). PSU had high scores in the indicator groups: "Infrastructure" (1105, max 1500) and "Education and Research" (1125, max 1800).
The ranking has been published since 2010 at the initiative of the University of Indonesia. The initiative of its developers is aimed at attracting the attention of the academic community to solving environmental issues. This year, the organizers presented a new theme: "Creating UI GreenMetric World University Rankings: The Way Forward". Greater participation of universities from around the world and a collective desire to build sustainable campuses for the future are encouraged.
