A large-scale international science and technology conference was organized in Penza State University from May 13th till May 16th, 2015. The conference was focused on advanced computer technologies in engineering, design, manufacture, as well as education and training. The Russian branches of Delcam Ltd., world renowned producer of CADCAM software and subsidary of Audodesk Inc., world leader in 3D design, engineering and entertainment software, were key participants of the conference.  The conference was conducted in three working days on several venues and included demonstrations, lectures, workshops and practical performances.

A seminar on advanced machining solutions in industry (presented by ‘Delcam Samara’) was accompanied with visits to Penza industrial plants that employ Delcam software in engineering and production: ‘SKBT’ (turbochargers design bureau),  ‘Penzadiezelmash’ (diesel engines and turbochargers manufacturer), ‘PTPA’ (industrial valves manufacturer), ‘Rameev’ innovative research and technology park.

Penza State University business incubator became a showroom for advanced computer engineering analysis (presented by ‘Delcam Samara’). ProCast foundry processes modelling system attracted greatest interest.

‘Chystie Prudy’ tourist complex, located near scenic lakes, also became the venue for the conference. The tourist complex hosted the 8th International Sculpture and Arts Symposium and some artists joined the conference workshops.  An art project that was carried out with the use of advanced technologies united professionals from several companies.  The ‘Diana’ sculpture (sculptor: Letitia de Bazelaire, 2014) was first scanned with Artec optic scanner (‘Delcam Samara’), further 3D data were used for two different sculpturing techniques: milling by KUKA robot (KUKA Robotics RUS, ‘Delcam Samara’, ‘TPK Foliplast’ – Nizhny Novgorod) and vacuum casting (‘TPK Foliplast’).

Similar projects were demonstrated by Penza State University in its rapid prototyping laboratory that uses ‘TKP Foliplast’ technologies.

Overall, the conference was attended by participants from Moscow, Tolyatti, Samara, N.Novgorod, Novokuybyshevsk, Izhevsk, Zhukovsky, Naberezhnye Chenlny, Yekaterinburg and others.

The conference also stressed the techniques in education and training. Apart from Penza State University, the conference was visited be members of Penza and Samara colleges and technical schools, as well as hobby clubs for children and youth. The collaboration between Penza State University and Delcam Ltd. has been developing for more than ten years. The university serves a connecting link in the chain of engineer training.  It was noted by the minister of education of the Penza region that strengthening the links between science, education and business is a vitally important and rewarding activity.
