Artem Voynov, master student at the Faculty of Computer Engineering, Polytechnic Institute, Penza State University, is pursuing a 6-month scientific internship in Lulea University of Technology (LTU, Lulea, Sweden). He was awarded the Russian Federation President grant for study abroad. Professor Victor N. Dubinin, Doctor of Engineering, is a scientific advisor of the master student in PSU.

The scientific internship of the student is combined with studying at the Faculty of Computer Sciences, Electrical Engineering and Space Technology in Lulea University of Technology. The host department is the Department of Accountable Computing and Communication.

In the university laboratory Artem Voynov is conducting research in advanced intelligent electrical networks, Smart Grid, that are to supplant present-day networks in the future. Smart Grid networks are the framework to integrate rapidly growing renewable sources and electric consumers and they will be able to improve fault detection and to prevent some emergency situations due to intelligent features of the networks. The research of our master student will result in considerable reduction of energy losses in electrical networks and their increasing reliability by using numerous cooperating intelligent devices in the network.

“When I arrived in Lulea I stayed in the dormitory, where I met a lot of interesting people. Having talked to them I have become more aware of cultures and customs of other nations. Of course I’m taking much time to carry out research and to attend various training courses. At first it was hard to acquire information in English rapidly, but it is not a problem now. There are many small lakes and bays in Lulea. After a workday I take great pleasure in walking along their shores. You can rest there and enjoy fresh air. The internship gives an opportunity to gain experience in finding solutions to modern engineering and scientific problems and to become an in-demand specialist,” Artem Voynov noted.
