Professor from Oxford University visits PSU
From September 19th to 22nd, 2017 students of Penza State University had the opportunity to attend lectures by Professor Karen Hewitt from the University of Oxford.
Karen Hewitt is a well-known expert in English Literature, closely cooperating with Oxford Russia Fund. The project on Contemporary English Literature in Russian Universities involves more than 60 Russian higher education institutions.
For several years two PSU departments have been participating in this project. They are the Department of the English Language and the Department of Foreign Languages and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages, Belinsky Institute of Teacher Education.
Thanks to the involvement in the project run by Oxford Russia Fund, the departments have received dozens of books by contemporary British authors that will be used in teaching and learning process.
Professor Karen Hewitt gave lectures and classes in English for students of Faculty of History, Languages and Literature and Faculty of Economics and Administration, as well as for teachers of English, listeners of professional development programmes.
The students of Faculty of Economics and Administration attended the lecture “British, the EU and Brexit” by Professor Karen Hewitt that was devoted to political and economic consequences of referendum in the UK. Following the lecture students asked questions of their particular interest.
During her visit Karen Hewitt held meetings with professors and associate professors at the Department of Foreign Languages and Methods of Teaching of Foreign Languages and at the Department of Foreign Languages. The presentation on the UK policy, history and literature aroused significant interest among students and academic staff. Moreover the Professor took part in an open session on reading literature with students of the group 15EA1.
