PSU postgraduate student undertakes internship at Hannover Laser Centre
Aleksey Shamin, 4-year postgraduate student, is currently pursuing scientific internship at Hannover Laser Centre. He was awarded the Russian Federation President grant for study abroad according to the Order No. 564 dated 15 June 2017. The student’s academic advisor is Yekaterina Pecherskaya, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Head of the Department of Data Measuring Equipment and Metrology.
It is a ten-month internship (from 1 September 2017 to 30 June 2018). Aleksey presented the results of his studies and shared impressions of the internship:
“At the moment I am engaged in several projects related to the use of laser technologies in the field of thin-film structure formation. Moreover I directly participate in obtaining 3D coatings for growing biological cells.
Thanks to the Russian Federation President grant for study abroad, I had a unique opportunity to apply my knowledge and skills here and also to learn something new. The centre brings together amazing scientists, prominent specialists in this field. As I see it, I am very lucky to work under their supervision and gain experience.
In addition, I am able to operate the advanced and high-tech equipment. Based on the work results, I plan to publish 2 – 3 articles in major German scientific journals. State Final Certification is scheduled for June, during which I will defend the report on scientific and qualification work. The field of my scientific interests is the technology of instrument engineering. I intend to defend the thesis by December 2018. I would like to present my achievements in the thesis.
Besides studying and working, I take part in the competition for enrolling on additional courses in English, on successful completion of which I will obtain the C1 – Advanced level. This is necessary both to expand scientific cooperation with foreign colleagues, to speak at international conferences, and to publish articles in publications related to the citation bases of WOS and Scopus”.
